First in a series of Slayers Tarot card designs being made by my friend Unoriginality. She aske dme to help CG them, as I apparently am very, very good at it (well, she says better than her). She was the one who decided on most things -- like which Slayers characters corresponded to which cards. Needless to say, I agree with most of them. The Fool represents having no direction, someone out for the adventure, compltely carefree. UO chose Gourry Gabriev to represent The Fool. Besides the crack about Gourry's intelligence that i know someone will make, Gourry is one of the few in the cast that just seems content travelling and doens't reall have a goal in mind, especcially at the beginning. The actual scene depicted is form one of the short stories by the original Slayers author. Before he met Lina, Gourry was a mercenary. He had run off with the Sword of Light to keep his family from fighting over it, and he wasn't sure what to do next -- believe it or not, he was depressed and contemplating suicide, as he thought he had no purpose in life. Then he met another traveller (Lina's father, no less -- the other figure in the picture) who told him to find soemthign to do with his life -- even if it just was protecting one other person -- to give it meaning. The Fool is typically depicted with a pack, and with his eyes not on where he'ws going. He also is usually shown near a cliff face, representing danger.
